One more “electoral campaign” starts on July 14

“Election” campaign for the “council of republic” starts on July 14, the Central Election Committee Secretary Mikalay Lazavik said.

According to the Decree of June 24, 2008 No. 345 this political campaign is to continue till October 14.

As noted by Mikalay Lazavik, nomination of candidates for “deputies” of the “council of republic” is to start on August 17. Until that time choosing and evaluation of possible candidates is to take place, BELTA informs.

Nomination of candidates is to be finished in September 15. Their registration is to take place from September 16 till September 20.

As we have informed, “election” to the upper chamber of the “parliament” is indirect. “Senators” are not elected by the population, but by the “deputies” of local Soviets at their sessions by secret vote. “The council of republic” consists of 64 “MPs”. 8 of them are appointed by Lukashenka. Others are elected, 8 persons from each of 7 regions.
