Alena Dubskaya: “In prison Artsyom is killed by complete isolation”

12

Mother of the “Young Front” activist, political prisoner Artsyom Dubski is worried by conditions of his incarceration in Mahilyou colony.

“Artsyom is constantly oppressed in prison. One of these days I visited him, and we spent almost 24 hours together. We talked a lot, and Artsyom was even sent for and warned not to “say something indiscreet” to me. So in order to speak frankly we had to turn up thee TV and speak in undertones. I know that Artsyom constantly receives threats from administration. Planted prisoners are sent to him specially and they threaten to injure him, to deprive him of this or that body part… not all his letters are received by us,” Alena Dubskaya told to charter97.org website.

As said by the mother of the political prisoner, in prison Artsyom Dubski is kept in complete isolation.

“Nobody talks to him – it is forbidden secretly. Attention of the colony’s administration is compelled to him. For instance, Artsyom was told to clean one room. Even when he works there, other prisoners are forbidden to enter that room. Son misses contacts very much. This isolation is simply killing him,” Alena Dubskaya said.

The woman is very concerned that her son’s stomach ulcer can aggravate in the conditions of prison.

“Artsyom has stomach ulcer, he is allowed to receive dietetic food in December. Nobody knows what will happen in January. Thanks God, we managed to bring him medicines. As a mother, I am worried about his clothes. We have brought him many warm clothes. But he is allowed to put on only very light clothing, which is good only for summer or slightly cool weather.

After a meeting with my son we wanted to hand over to him more food, but the weight of food parcels is limited. My heart was breaking when I saw that Artsyom didn’t chose food, but he took books, notebooks, pens. They also have weight, and he had to choose – these articles or food. As a mother, I felt pity, that he chose books and not food,” Alena Dubskaya said.

We remind that “Young Front” activist Artsyom Dubski was sentenced to a year in minimum security penal colony for violation of the rules of serving punishment in the notorious Case of 14, when 14 youth activists were sentenced to restriction of liberty for their participation in protests rallies of entrepreneurs. In 2009, Amnesty International recognized the participants of the Process of 14 prisoners of conscience.
