On March 13 leaders of pro-democracy forces Anatol Lyabedzka and Alyaksandar Kazulin met with Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius in Vilnius.
“The main topic of the discussion was place and role of Lithuania in shaping the policy of the European Union in Belarusian question,” Anatol Lyabedzka said to ucpb.org website.
“We have expressed all our misgivings about risks and threats of holding a dialogue in line with the model realized today. It cannot be said that the position of Vilnius on Belarus and on such issues as invitation of Lukashenka to Prague has been finally deified,” he said.
Belarusian politicians have shared impressions and told about the results of their visit to Strasbourg. The visit was supported by the Lithuanian side, and in particular by Laima Andrikienė, a member of the European Parliament from Lithuania, and Foreign Ministry of Lithuania. As Anatol Lyabedzka believes, it is extremely important for the discussion on Belarus and its problems to be held between Prime Ministers and Foreign Ministers of different countries.
“It is extremely important for such a discussion to start now. Unfortunately, in Strasbourg we realized that on many issues decisions had been formed by 80-90%. And now we are trying to turn it in a different direction. That is why arguments and proofs are needed that Europe shouldn’t forget about European and moral values in this situation, as it sounds as a betrayal,” the politician noted.
As said by Anatol Lyabedzka, Andrius Kubilius in his turn observed that this discussion makes the Lithuanian side “to hold a very serious discussion in their country once again”.
On March 13 Anatol Lyabedzka and Alyaksandr Kazulin are to meet with Foreign Minister of Lithuania Vygaudas Ušackas.
