Militia officers detained activists of “European Belarus”, BCD, and “Young Belarus”, who hang out a banner and a white-red-white flag on a bride over the river Dvina in the center of Vitsebsk.
Four activists were guarded to the Chyhunachny district militia department in Vitsebsk in the evening July 16. Three young people, who came to the militia department to support their friends, were detained as well.
As Alyaksandr Kuznyatsou, head of the Vitsebsk branch of “The BPF Youth”, people in mufti came out of the department and caught BCD representative Ales Halavanya, and then ordered Iryna Pyatrova to go to the department. Kuznyatsou himself was ordered to show his documents and explain why he had come to the militia department.
Militia officers demanded all detained to give explanations on the banner “Freedom to Political Prisoners” and the white-red-white flag on the bridge above the Dvina.
