Dalia Grybauskaite meets with presidential aspirants in Belarus

There’s a real chance today to get rod of dictatorship on the center of Europe, Andrei Sannikov said at the meeting.

Representatives of the Belarusian opposition had a meeting with President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite and Lithuanian Foreign Minister Audronius Azubalis.

The meeting was held in the Embassy of Lithuania in Minsk. Belarus was represented by presidential aspirants Andrei Sannikov, Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu, Vitaly Rymasheuski, Ryhor Kostuseu, and Yaraslau Ramanchuk, the website European Belarus reports.

The Lithuanian president and foreign minister informed the opposition members about their meeting with Alyaksandr Lukashenka and head of the Belarusian MFA Syarhei Martynau. Dalia Grybauskaite emphasized she had arrived in Minsk not only as president of Lithuanian but also a representative of the OSCE Troika. According to the Lithuanian top officials, the issues of the upcoming presidential election were raised at official meetings. In particular, Dalia Grybauskaite said Lithuania would be guided by common standards of elections in its estimations.

The Lithuanian foreign minister said in turn that economic projects hadn’t been the main theme of discussions at the official meetings. According to him, the port of Klaipeda is loaded enough, so transporting Venezuelan oil is not of great importance for the port.

“Representatives of the Belarusian opposition expressed their concern about the facts of harassment during the election campaign. All of them expressed confidence that the Belarusian regime wouldn’t allow fair election, so Europe should watch the situation in Belarus and give appropriate evaluations.

I said that silence of Europe looks strange amid denunciation of Lukashenka’s dictatorship by Russia and its attention to the cases of kidnapping and killing of politicians and journalists. In my view, Lukashenka doesn’t have any support among people. People really want the power to be changed. There’s a real chance today to get rid of the dictatorship in the center of Europe.

The Lithuanian party said the country was well informed about the situation in Belarus, watched it and consulted with other EU members. Both Grybauskaite and Azubalis understand well that votes are not counted at election in Belarus, so they said at the meeting with Lukashenka and Martynau that international observers should be present at the vote count,” Andrei Sannikov, leader of European Belarus civil campaign, told about the meeting.
