Speaking about the death of a journalist Aleh Byabenin, the Belarusian ruler has made a sensational statement.
Until today the Belarusian Prosecutor’s office said that it was a suicide. However, on November 4 in an interview to Polish journalists Lukashenka said: he is sure that the case related to Aleh Byabenin’s death has a criminal nature.
“I think it would be discovered that it is a criminal act, and those who are casting a slur on the authorities’ reputation now would look sadly. As they say, guilty mind is never at ease. I am responsible that this had happened in my country,” Alyaksandr Lukashenka is quoted by BelaPAN.
As said by Lukashenka, any incident in Belarus is associated with politics. “The same was in the case of Byabenin. Listen, I had not known him at all, what an oppositional journalist he was,” Lukashenka said. “As it turned out, he was writing something on the internet, at “Charter’97” [website]. For God’s sake! They are writing so many things on the internet, so many bad things against the state…”
Lukashenka has also touched upon the topic of disappearances of well-known people in Belarus. “As for the people who had disappeared in our country, I am the most interested person. I wonder about this, why these exactly persons had been abducted. For instance, Dzmitry Zavadski was my cameraman, he was a good guy. Is he a politician, or any kind of rival to me? Could I be accused: it was Lukashenka, or Lukashenka had given an order? And what’s the guy’s fault? Or Henadz Karpenka, who died in hospital, what has Lukashenka to do with that? If you want to check it up – you are welcome, come and check it up,” Lukashenka offered.
