Ales Pushkin, an artist, is a political prisoner

8

Belarusian Free Theatre demands freedom for Ales Pushkin, an artist.

We cite the text of the Free Theatre's demand:

«Tomorrow, on Sunday, the Belarusians will go to vote for a new president. Everyone has a right to do that but Ales Pushkin, an artist.

He isn't able to do that because of the preventive arrest organized by the authorities and being put into prison. Pushkin was subjected to multiple repressions from the authorities not only for his civil position but also on professional basis. Many times he was subjected to arrests and fines and for one of the art events he was condemned to a year and a half on probation.

We would like to draw the attention of the candidates for presidency of the Republic of Belarus, Belarusian and international human rights organizations to the provocative nature of Ales Pushkin's arrest and demand him released immediately.

Natallia Kalyada, Belarusian Free Theatre superintendent

Nikalai Khalezin, Belarusian Free Theatre art director

Uladzimir Scherban', Belarusian Free Theatre director».
