Vintsuk Vyachorka: “Indiscriminate forgiveness to Lukashenka to be suspended”

3

The conflict related to the unrecognized Union of Poles has overstepped the borders of Belarusian-Polish diplomatic scandal.

Now it looks like a war of official Minsk with the European Union, which eastern outpost Poland is. Why Belarusian authorities are provoking deterioration in relations with Europe? One of the founders of the Belarusian Popular Front party Vintsuk Vyachorka has shared his opinion about that with “Belarusian Partisan”.

-- What do you think about the conflict related to the unrecognized Union of Poles in Belarus? Is it a Belarusian-Polish diplomatic conflict or something else?

- No, it is a conflict of two countries, not an ethnic conflict. It is an integral part of the policy aimed at suffocation of any manifestation of independent public self-organization, which existed the whole time.

But it is happening right now and in an aggravated form, and shows that except the constant line aimed at suffocation, there is also a situational component there. Lukashenka demonstrates: if there is an order to drag him into Europe by any means, he would be dragged into Europe by all manner of means, just the way he is. “Take us as you find us”. And this exactly fact bewilders those European politicians who had drafted such a strategy in relations with official Minsk two years ago.

- Sometimes we can hear that it is not Lukashenka who creates exacerbation of relations with Europe, but some clans existing inside the Belarusian regime which are vitally interested to Minsk with Europe, with the West.

- These are tales certainly. Undoubtedly, there are some clans and affinity groupings inside the Belarusian power. But the final decision in this system of power is adopted by only one person, and this person’s name is Alyaksandr Lukashenka. About three years ago some so-called “analysts” started to plant into the consciousness of people, both to internal and foreign consumption, ideas about a pro-European group existing inside the Belarusian regime. Allegedly Makei, Pyatkevich are interested in development of good relations with Europe and are ready to start reform.

There is a consolidated fist of authorities first of all, and it hasn’t ceased to be pro-Russian. The conflict around the Union of Poles in Belarus is firstly a demonstration of loyalty to the Kremlin. It is for the benefit of the Kremlin. And it is a test for the Kremlin, to what degree Poland can be humiliated by the hands of Lukashenka. Namely Poland always occupied the most principled and sustained stand towards Russia.

- Your forecast: in which direction is expected?

- In the run-up to the presidential campaign the policy for aggravation inside Belarus is to be continued.

Speaking about the relations of Minsk and Europe, I think that several political declarations would be made. I think that indiscriminate forgiveness to Lukashenka would be discontinued, in a hope to tear him way from Russian influence and draw into the European civilization.
