German press: Rammstein is enemy number one in Belarus

95

The German media are discussing a scandal around the Minsk gig by German band Rammstein.

Rammstein is Enemy Number One of the State. Belarus worries, Rammstein Declared Enemy of State in Belarus, Too Hard for Belarus.

German and Swiss media react to the scandal around the concert in Belarus with such headlines. Die Zeit, Stern, Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Bild and other media quoted head of the Public Morality Council Mikalai Charhinets, who said the German band could destroy the state.

The articles are much the same: a brief retelling of Charhinets’s statement of February 22, and an introduction to today’s Belarus.

“The head of Belarus is Alyaksandr Lukashenka dubbed the last dictatorship in Europe (...) The Belarusian government has recently tightened control over the Internet (...) The Morality Commission (Public Council) was established in 2009 to suppress the freedom of expression. Observers suppose the authorities have spurred their actions against the dissent as Lukashenka is going to run in the presidential elections again,” Die Zeit writes.
