Slips of the tongue by Belarusian officials can make one think.

Eduard Balanchuk, a representative of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee in Maladzechna and Maladzecha district, was present at a sitting of conference room of the Maladzechna district executive committee on March 25, where the district election commission registered candidates to local council members, “Human Rights Activists for Free Elections” writes.

Tatsyana Shafalovich, the head of the ideology department, took the floor at the end of the sitting. She reminded the registered candidates how much the Soviet power had made for them to be able to be nominated as candidates and assured the people present the soviet power would do its best to hold the elections in a proper way.

It probably was a slip of the tongue made by ideologist Shafalovich. Probably, she meant local authorities, but her speech can suggest different thoughts …
