Kyrgyzstan demand Bakiyev be extradited from Belarus

The interim government of Kyrgyzstan adopted a decree on stripping Kurmanbek Bakiyev of presidential power and immunity.

The General Prosecutor’s Office has been ordered to take measures to extradite Kurmanbek Bakiyev to Kyrgyzstan, Interfax learnt from the press service of the interim government said on Tuesday.

The source of the agency the decree has three items, the first of which says that “Bakiyev was ousted by people”.

“The second item says Bakiyev allowed shooting at civilians, by this depriving him of the status of president and presidential immunity,” the press service said.

The third item of the decree orders the General Prosecutor’s Office to “bring Bakiyev to criminal responsibility and have him extradited to Kyrgyzstan,” the press service added.

A criminal case against Kurmanbek Bakiyev has been initiated in Kyrgyzstan over a number of articles of the Criminal Code, including “mass killings” during clashes between the opposition and law-enforcement bodies on April 7.

Bakiyev is in Belarus now. As Alyaksandr Lukashenka told in an interview, he had given shelter to the Kyrgyz dictator. Bakiyev arrived in Minsk with one of his unofficial wives and two children. It was reported at first that Bakiyev stayed in Lukashenka’s residence Drazdy near Minsk. Then information appeared that Bakiyev may be hidden in Berezinski Reserve, in Lukashenka’s residence Plauno.
