Medvedev condemn Lukashenka of failing to fulfill his promise

The Kremlin does not force anyone to recognize South Ossetia and Abkhazia, but what for the promises were uttered, Russian President said in Sochi.

Alyaksandr has Lukashenka failed to fulfill his promise to do everything possible for recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. It had been stated by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in Sochi in conversation with Russian journalists, radio Mayak reports.

“Mr Lukashenka publicly promised to bend every effort for recognition of the two Transcaucasian republics’ independence, but has not fulfilled his promise over the two years,” said the Russian leader. He stressed that the Kremlin does not make its allies to recognize Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

More than a year ago Abkhazia and South Ossetia addressed the Belarusian parliament for recognition of independence. At the moment, South Ossetia and Abkhazia have been recognized only by Russia, Venezuela, Nicaragua and a tiny republic of Nauru. Other countries consider Abkhazia and South Ossetia a part of Georgia.

Lukashenka stated in September of the year before last that Belarus would recognize independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. However many independent experts viewed that statement as flirting with the European Union in order to get loans.

Recently Belarusian TV broadcast an interview with Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili in order to Moscow. The Russian TV previously showed an accusatory film about Belarusian dictator, “Godbatka”.
