Euronews: Russia won’t recognize presidential elections in Belarus (Video)

As Euronews supposes, today the democrats have more chances to win than ever before.

Euronews showed a report regarding the situation in Belarus on September 14. Speaker Uladzimir Andreichanka announced the date for the presidential elections at a special session of the Belarusian “parliament”. The date is set for December 19.

Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s presidential term expires on April 6, 2011. The elections could have been held in February. Some analysts think Lukashenka pursues several aims by appointing the elections two months earlier.

Firstly, the country will face problems with Russian gas and oil supplies not earlier than January 1, after the elections.

Secondly, the opposition has less time to get ready for the electoral campaign. Presidential aspirants are to apply for registration on September 24, in 10 days.

More than 10 representatives of the opposition announced their intention to run in the campaign. This time they seem to have more chances than ever before. Lukashenka won’t be able to gather support of his Russian colleagues in these elections.
