Andrei Sannikov: “Together with you I will fight until Victory”

Belarusians have a chance to celebrate the New Year in a normal country, the opposition leader is convinced.

The leader of “European Belarus” civil campaign Andrei Sannikov has made a statement:

Dear fellow countrymen!

The will of the nation must lie at the root of the power. It is written in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It is also written there that the will of the people is demonstrated at free elections.

However the people of Belarus are deprived of the opportunity to express their will. Needless to say we cannot expect a real election this time. However, together we must return ourselves the legal right to elect our government.

Lukashenka does not have a right to go to the polls. It’s true, in 1994 he was elected by people, but he was elected for 5 years, which he turned into 7 years very soon, changing the Constitution in 1996. By the next election political leaders, Lukashenka’s opponents were neutralized. In 2004 he changed the Constitution once again, and ventured upon a life-long rule. Not only laws were violated, but rules of morality as well. The international community did not recognize the results of referenda of 1996 and 2004.

The results of the unrecognized elections and referenda have been ensured by the current chair of the CEC Yarmoshyna. For rigging election results sanctions, which are still in force, were imposed against her by the international community. Even the visa ban for Lukashenka has been suspended. The election under Yarmoshyna’s supervision is a disgrace for Belarus.

Today a real opportunity has appeared to break the vicious circle and give Belarus freedom.

Freedom is needed by everyone. By businessmen and officials, students and workers, pensioners and officers, teachers and farm workers. After becoming free, we will become a normal country, respected in the world.

We are to believe in our forces for that, not to have fear and go forward until the victory.

We are many, we are the majority. Opinion polls today show: most citizens of Belarus will not vote for Lukashenka. And how a person could vote for the dictator, who managed to fall out with all natural partners of Belarus and seeks salvation from the same dictators as he is himself? How could people vote for the person who is suspected in involvement in political assassinations by the world community?

For many years the regime have been gaining dominance over everything, disseminated fear and multiplied special services. It have been parasitizing on oil and gas donations of Russia and carelessly taking out loans. Dozens billions of dollars have been wasted for unknown purposes. For many years Lukashenka said that absence of hunger in the country was his main achievement. The result of his policy is that the population of Belarus has dropped by 700,000 persons over the last 16 years.

We must stop the dictatorship, restore the supremacy of law, stop liquidation of the nation.

After liberation from the dictatorship, we will immediately put an end to the self-isolation of Belarus, restore good relations with Russia, mend up cooperation with Ukraine, use the assistance offered by the EU for development of the country, engage the potential of the relations with Poland and the Baltic states.

Changes are near more than ever before. Contacts with officials show that even among them there are many clear-headed people who hope for changes in the authorities. Everybody understands that the time of Lukashenka is over.

I will do everything I can for the last dictatorship of Europe to collapse finally, but I need your support.

It is not enough today to come to the polling station and vote against the incumbent regime. We all have learnt that well. We will be able to stand upon our interests only when we would be able to defend our choice.

I am addressing you, all those who want changes and believe me, and request your concrete assistance. Join my initiative group, collect signatures, disseminate information about inevitability of the dictatorship’s fall, about the necessity to fight for freedom, collect money for manufacturing and dissemination of informational materials – it is permitted by the law. In order to participate in the election campaign I have decided to sell my flat. We must use all possibilities to actualize our chance.

I am addressing the Belarusians from all parts of the world: today you can help our mother country; you can speed up the victory over the dictatorship. Modern technologies and means of communication make it possible for you to be active participants of struggle for freedom in Belarus.

The dictatorship will hinder my campaign in ever y way. Even at the first stage there will be attempts not to register the initiative group. You should know that nothing will stop me; I will fight together with you until the Victory.

My team consists of respected people, professionals. The team is open for anyone, who, like us, is ready to fight for a free European Belarus.

We all have a chance to welcome in the New Year in a normal country!
