Lukashenka fears missile strike on Drazdy

Lukashenka’s mind is haunted by the fate of his friend Gaddafi.

“I would like to underline that the leadership of Belarus views the Armed Forces as the key strategic retaliatory deterrent not only for external threats, but for guaranteeing stability in the state. I would like to hope, and I believe that the Belarusian army would meet the challenge,” A. Lukashenka stated on Friday as he heard out a report from Defense Minister Yuri Zhadobin on 11 November. The report covered results achieved by the Armed Forces of Belarus in 2011, Interfax-Zapad reports.

As the dictator noted, “the tests for durability of the social, political and economic model of development and of the national security system have been successfully passed by our country.” “Our country has not allowed drawing itself into any political adventures, and prevented any large-scale destructive actions,” A. Lukashenka said.

He has also noted that priorities of Belarus’ foreign policy activities have been clearly stated. It should stay multi-vector and aimed at providing peace and stability. “The military component of the national security has been brought into condition suitable to today’s challenges,” the ruler stated. As said by him, the events of this year have once again proved that “some superpowers still heavily rely on military force in their politic”. “It is particularly disturbing in view of the global financial crisis,” Lukashenka said. Therefore, he stressed that the task of the country is obvious. “We have to prevent our own military security from sliding.”

In this respect, the dictator noted that next year attention should be focused on practical training of the troops in modern warfare. “Military science and education should concentrate efforts on determining the most rational mechanisms to keep troops combat-effective and on working out promising warfare forms,” he said. “In no way we should be lulled away by the fact that we have aircraft, helicopters, tanks and the shield is stronger than ever. You see that today aircraft and tanks can be useless in modern combat. We see that by the bitter experience of war in other countries,” he said.

He stated: “These days missiles are used for the key tasks. It is necessary to learn to defend ourselves from enemy missiles. Other forms of combat are required taking into account our conditions, experience, our mentality.”
