Dashkevich goes on protest hunger strike

The political prisoner was offered to apply for a pardon on September 10, but he rejected the proposal.

As BelaPAN has learnt from Young Front deputy head Nasta Palazhanka, the leader of international organization Young Front (registered in the Czech Republic) Zmitser Dashkevich went on hunger strike in penal colony Nr 9 in Horki (the Mahilou region).

Dashkevich’s lawyer saw her client when she was called to visit the trial over changing the place of serving punishment for Dashkevich (from a penal colony to a closed prison). The Young Front leader is accused gross violations of internal rules.

As it was found the trial was not carried out, because a case was not opened. The lawyer could only see her client, Palazhanka says. Dashkevich says he will hold a hunger strike until the colony authorities fulfill his demands. The prisoner requires normal confinement conditions in a punishment cell. He also demands to return him the Bible.

Dashkevich was offered to sign a pardon petition on September 10, but he refused.
