Wives of presidential candidates doubt their husbands’ release

Wives of the presidential candidates Andrei Sannikov and Mikalai Statkevich doubt that their husbands are on the list of 11 more pardoned persons involved in the so-called mass riots case.

In particular, Sannikov’s wife Iryna Khalip doubts that her husband has been pardoned. “I am sure that Sannikov is not on this list. I do not why, but it seems to me that he would be released among the last ones,” she told according to BelaPAN.

At the same time, Khalip observed that unlike the two previous charters signed by Lukashenka basing upon petitions for pardon, the current charter had been signed “on the grounds of humanity principles.” “I suppose that all who could have been persuaded or forced to sign a petition for pardon, have been released already. Those who do not agree to ask for pardon, are left,” Khalip said.

Maryna Adamovich, the wife of another candidate Mikalai Statkevich, is also sure that there is no name of her husband among the names of the pardoned.

Volha Bandarenka, the wife of “European Belarus” campaign coordinator Zmitser Bandarenka, also doubts that her husband would be released. “I strongly doubt that he has been pardoned. I am going to visit the colony together with the lawyer tomorrow. I hope I would learn at least something there. But frankly speaking, I do not believe that he had been granted a pardon,” she noted.

In her turn, the wife of one more candidate for presidency, Zmitser Vus, Yauheniya, has informed that she had learnt from journalists about signing another charter of pardon. “Now I will try to get on the phone to the colony representatives, to find out something. But I firmly believe that my husband would be at home by the new year day. He is possibly on this list, or he will be in the next one,” she said.

As charter97.org was informed by Darya Korsak, the wife of journalist Alyaksandr Atroshchankau, people in the colony do not know about the act yet, and cannot confirm or refute release of the prisoner.
