The Ambassador of Belarus to Poland, Victor Gaisenok, has not been invited to dinner at the Eastern Partnership summit in Warsaw on September 29.
Journalists from Belarus, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine learnt this from Mikołaj Dowgielewicz , the Polish Secretary of State for European Affairs and Economic Policy.
“The Belarusian delegation takes part in the plenary meeting of the EaP summit on September 30,” the Polish official said emphasizing that the dinner was organized only for the heads of states and governments.
If Belarus wants to review its participation in the summit, it will be its decision, Dowgielewicz notes.
The Polish official thinks that presence of the Belarusian delegation at the summit will allow giving a signal to the Belarusian authorities what Belarus can lose or what it can get in case of full participation in the Eastern Partnership project, TUT.by reports.
The Belarusian MFA gave temperate comments on the information from Warsaw. “We do not have confirmed information about the situation in Warsaw. But if is found out that dinner is an integral element on the programme supposing exchange of opinions by the heads of delegations of participating states, this decision will restrict the right of the Belarusian delegation,” Belarusian MFA press secretary Andrei Savinykh comments on the situation.
He noted that the information would be examined thoroughly and the Belarusian side would give an immediate response.
We remind that the Belarusian side decided to appoint Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Poland Victor Gaisenok as the coutnry’s representative at the summit, though invitation to the summit was sent to Belarusian foreign minister Syarhei Martynau.
