Court puts Vasily Parfyankou under preventive surveillance

On January 5, judge of the Pershamaiski district court of Minsk Syarhei Bandarenka ordered to put Vasily Parfyankou under preventive surveillance for 12 months because the political prisoner “does not mend his way”.

We remind that Vasily Parfyankou was put on police’s record in the Pershamaiski district police department after his release from a penal colony in Orsha, where he was serving 4-year sentence for participating in 2010 post-election protests. The report from the police department says Parfyankou “did not mend his way”, “systematically violates public order and was brought to administrative responsibility”.

Vasily Parfyankou will face a number of restrictions. He must appear in a police station for checks four times a month. He cannot go out from 8 pm to 6 am except for the time he spends at work. He is also forbidden to leave the city without permission of the surveillance body, Viasna human rights centre reports.

The ruling of judge Bandarenka is final and cannot be appealed against.
