Slave labour at flax harvesting (Document)

School children are forced to harvest flax under the snow in Glubokae.

In the Vitebsk region flax harvesting is still not done yet.

Despite a phoned telegram sent by the chairman of the Vitebsk regional executive committee Aliaksandr Kasinets, which said that the flax should no longer be in the fields by 22 October, in the Glubokae district it is still there, Euroradio reports.

On 29 October couple dozen people from enterprises and organizations of the town were waiting for being sent “for flax”. But at the last moment the administration cancelled the decision as there was snow in the fields. But the students of the lyceum were not lucky in that sense as they had to harvest the flax from under the snow.

We would remind that flax harvesting in Belarus’ agriculture, unlike with our European neighbors, still requires a lot of manual work.
