The initiative comes from the participants of the public association Free Region.

According to Gaidukou, the relatives hired a lawyer from Minsk so it would be easier to arrange visit to the KGB jail. However the investigator who deals with Andrei Gaidukou’s case is from Vitebsk, and for questionings he comes to Minsk every time, Radio Svaboda reports.
A criminal case has been filed against Andrei Gaidukou based on the article 356 part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus “State treason by means of carrying out agent’s activities”. It is being reported that he “was detained by KGB agents when putting in a hiding place the information of interest for foreign special services”.
As it became known later, Gaidukou was actually arrested for storing the Charter’97 newspapers.
