BAJ appeals to UN Special Rapporteur over Anton Surapin's case

The Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ) urges Frank La Rue raise his voice for the release of the arrested journalist.

A letter signed by BAJ deputy head Andrei Bastunets was sent to Geneva on August 2.

The Belarusian Association of Journalists calls on the UN Special Rapporteur on the Promotion and Protection of the Right to Freedom of Opinion and Expression to react to the fact of arrest of the journalist and urge the Belarusian government to release Anton Surapin from custody and stop prosecuting him.

Besides, the BAJ urges the UN Special Rapporteur to prepare recommendations for the Belarusian government to put an end to using criminal prosecution mechanisms to limit the freedom of expression of journalists who perform their professional and civic duties.
