Presentation of historical book banned in Zelva

The presentation of the book "By the local history paths of Zelva area" by Siarhei Chyhryn was to have taken place at Zelva district library on 15 March.

It is the first such detailed book concerning the history and local core studies of Zelva and the surrounding areas. The author tells interesting details about famous people of Zelva region, the events which took place there for the last 200 years and his talented contemporaries living there.

On 13 March Mr. Chyhryn received a telephone call from the head of Zelva district library Sviatlana Zhamoitsina. She said that the presentation won't take place as far there was much information about the Soviet-time dissidents Larysa and Yanka Heniyushs, the president of the Belarusian People's Republic Vasil Zakharka and the Vasil Zakharka, the making of the bells for Khatyn from the bells of Synkavichy church, etc.

Siarhei Chyhryn says he is not surprised as far as Zelva officials regularly ban events dedicated to the memory of Larysa Heniyush and meetings with democratic politicians. "Nevertheless, I will present my book free of charge to Zelva dwellers and cultural institutions of the district. They must have it," said Siarhei Chyhryn.
