Freedom Day rally permitted

The Minsk city executive committee allowed participants of the rally scheduled for March 24 to gather near the October cinema in Minsk.

Charter97.org has learnt it from Viktar Ivashkevich, a coordinator of European Belarus civil campaign and one of the rally organisers.

The Minsk city executive committee denied the organising committee to gather at the place they wanted – in front of the Botanical Garden. The reply of the municipal authorities also prohibits to use unregistered symbols.

The march is allowed along Surganov Street to the Park of Peoples' Friendship where a demonstration will be held.

Viktar Ivashkevich is sure that people carrying national or European flags won't be detained.

“The authorities cannot forbid national symbols. Members of the organising committee will bring and raise national flags. I advice other participants to do the same,” he said.

The rally on occasion of Freedom Day will be held in Minsk on March 24. The participants are supposed to gather in front of the October cinema at noon.
