Prison staff steal postcards to Statkevich

A political prisoner didn't receive postcards with Freedom Day congratulations.

Mikalai Statkevich wrote about censorship in his answer to opposition activist Vasil Palyalkou, Radio Racyja reports. The political prisoner informs he received an “empty envelope with a registered mail label”.

The head of the UCP branch in Homel earlier congratulated Mikalai Statkevich on Freedom Day on behalf of the regional democratic organisations.

“The postcard was signed by the coalition of democratic organisations. I gave my personal information, because we sent the letter via registered mail,” Vasily Palyakou said.

Mikalai Statkevich, a candidate for presidency at the latest elections, was sentenced to 6 years in prison for participating in a protest rally against the rigged results of the presidential elections of December 19, 2010.
