Political prisoner Frantskevich left alone in cell

Aliaksandr Frantskevich has been transferred to a closed unit in the penal colony in Ivatsevichy.

Charter97.org has learnt it from his mother Tatsiana Frantskevich.

“Aliaksandr sent a letter saying he is okay, but there are many mosquito in his cell. He is in a closed unit now. The prison authorities said he would be left their until the end of his sentence. There were four inmates in the cell, but now he is alone,” the political prisoner's mother said.

She added the prison authorities allowed to send Aliaksandr only a parcel with books.

“He cannot have visits and make phone calls. Inmates of the closed unit have the restrictions like in a maximum security prison. Sasha marked his 23rd birthday on May 6. His relatives and I sent him postcards. He said he received our congratulations. His term expires on September 3. We are waiting for the end of the summer,” Tatsiana Frantskevich said.

Earlier, the political prisoner was thrown into a punishment cell for 20 days for unknown reasons.

Aliaksandr Frantskevich was sentenced to three years' imprisonment in the “anarchist case” in May 2011. He was accused of carrying out attacks on state buildings and hacking the website of the Navapolatsk city executive committee. He didn't admit his guilt at the trial. Human rights activists name Frantskevich a political prisoner and demand to release him immediately.
