Marek Migalski: Mikalai Statkevich's activity worth admiring

A member of the European Parliament sends birthday greetings to a political prisoner.

Mikalai Statkevich, a political prisoner and a former presidential candidate, marks his 57th birthday on August 12. It is his third birthday behind bars, where he has spent 2.5 years, Radio Racyja reports.

MEP Marek Migalski hopes it is the last birthday behind bars for the political prisoner:

“I've never met with Mr Statkevich, but I have the impression that we are kindred spirits. I know his wife and his story. I know about his struggle for democracy and freedom for his people. I can assure that most Poles admire and support him and religious Poles pray for him, because what he has done and continues to do and they way he goes through difficulties – it's worth admiring. I hope it is his last sad birthday. He will be released sooner or later and see Belarus free for himself and all Belarusians. That's what I wish him.”
