Canadian Prime Minister Harper announced sending of 200 military trainers to Ukraine

Canadian authorities will send a group of 200 military trainers to Ukraine.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Defence Minister Jason Kenney said that Canadians will join the military trainers from the U.S. and the UK in the in western Ukraine's town of Yavoriv in Lviv region in early summer of 2015 and will work there until March 31, 2017.

It was reported that Chief of the General Staff of Ukraine Viktor Muzhenko and Canadian Ambassador to Ukraine Roman Vashchuk have discussed issues on military training and providing of technical support by Canada to the Armed Forces of Ukraine March 27.

Vashchuk stressed that Canada has a large package of initiatives that confirms the country's support for Ukraine and demonstrate willingness to help it in the development of modern armed forces.

In particular, according to him, Canada is ready to help with the reform of the Military Law-Enforcement Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Canadians will also offer Ukrainian troops their expertise in countering mines and improvised explosive devices and provide special equipment. They will contribute to improvement of the safety flight system that will allow Ukraine to meet efficient global standards as well. "There are no problems with the organization of exercises and training of our servicemen by the military trainers. We have a sufficient number of well-equipped training centers and ready for such cooperation," Muzhenko said.
