In Belarus Mothers’ Movement 328 Continues To Fight For Registration

Mothers, whose sons had been sentenced to enormous prison terms for alleged distribution of drugs, have united and are trying to register their movement.

The Supreme Court of Belarus by its decision obliged Hrodna Regional Court to review the merits of the case of registration of the social and educational public association Mothers’ Movement 328, Radio Racyja informs.

On January 26, 2016 Hrodna Regional Court refused to consider the complaint of the initiators of the public association Mothers’ Movement 328 concerning the denial to register it, referring to the fact that they are not eligible to address judicial institutions.

As said by the chairperson of the initiative group for creation of the public association Mothers’ Movement 328 Larysa Zhyhar, members of the organisation had not expected a different ruling from the Supreme Court:

– They say, hope is the last thing to die, but we received the ruling of the Supreme Court to overturn the decision of Hrodna court, and we said: “Hooray!” We thought something could be changed, and they could finally understand that the social and educational public association Mothers’ Movement 328 is extremely necessary, as drugs problem is really one of the most acute at the moment.

On April 11, 2016 Hrodna Regional Court is to consider the case relating the denial to register the social and educational public association Mothers’ Movement 328 by the regional justice department. In case of a negative decision, initiators of creation of the NGO are set to address the Supreme Court again.
