Activists Seek To Cancel Illegal Fines And Fees

Mikhail Pastukhou, a former judge of Constitutional Court, has initiated the action.

A number of civil society activists from Minsk, united for the initiative "Step to Law", have started collecting signatures for a statement to the national and international authorities, Radio Racyja informs.

“A big number of fines for social and political activists have caused this,” – Volha Nikalaichyk, a Belarusian film director and one of the initiators of the collection of signatures, said.

– According to our data, judicial and legal system of Belarus demands from the Belarusian activists about 150 thousand dollars for their participation in peaceful rallies and pickets in 2016. There were issued over 557 resolutions demanding that Belarusian activists should pay fines. This is a catastrophe, this is the failure of international policy towards Belarus.”

The former judge of Constitutional Court Mikhail Pastukhou is also one of the initiators of collecting of signatures.

“In fact, the state applies economic terrorism against civil society activists,” – he noted.
