What Is Known About Two Pechy Officers Detained With Regard To Aliaksandr Korzhych’s Case

Two officers were detained in the training center in Pechy with regard to the case on soldier Aliaksandr Korzhych’s death. It was announced by the Investigative Committee on October 17.

According to the investigation, the company commander, a senior lieutenant, born in 1994, and his deputy, a captain, born in 1989, knowing for sure that the ensign of the company in which Aliaksandr Korzhych served, used his bank card, deliberately non acted to create the appearance of well-being in the division before the higher commanders. The officers did not want to take measures to maintain internal order in order to minimize their workload.

In addition, from September 26, Aliaksandr Korzhych, according to the order of the military unit commander, was listed as having arrived from a medical company. But from that day until the moment when the soldier’s corpse was found hanged in the basement of the medical unit, nothing was known about his whereabouts. And the 23-year-old company commander, according to the information of the IC, didn’t try to find out where the soldier was.

"At that, in accordance with Article 131 of the Charter of the Internal Service of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus, the company commander was obliged, among other things, to keep records of the company's personnel and maintain military discipline." In accordance with Article 133 of the Charter, the deputy company commander for ideological work was obliged to take effective measures to prevent violations, as well as was responsible for the moral and psychological state of personnel," – the Investigative Committee informs.

These facts became the basis for initiating of criminal cases against the officers under Part 3 of Art. 455 (inaction of authorities, leading to grave consequences) of the Belarusian Criminal Code, which are attached to the main case of the incident in Pechy.

The suspects have been put under restraint in the form of detention.

Euroradio managed to find out who was the commander of the company, in which Aliaksandr Korzhych served and was killed. His name is Pavel Sukavenka, he was born on March 18, 1994.

"I'm trying prentice hand at doing such a responsible job as training and educating future tank gunners. It seems that everything is fine. In any case, there have been no reprimands from the commanders," – Pavel (a lieutenant at that time) said to a correspondent of the Belarusian Military Newspaper same-day two years ago. – As for the future perspective, there is a goal to pass the service steps one after another in order to enter the command and staff faculty of the academy then and grow up to big stars on epaulets. Why not?.."

Pavel Sukavenka is on the same photo with another suspect in Sasha Korzhych’s case – ensign Artur Virbal.

Pavel Sukavenka got the shoulder straps of Senior Lieutenant only recently – on June 27, 2017. At that time, Aliaksandr Korzhych was already serving in the unit number 43064, where Sukavenka was the commanded of the 3rd company.

On October 16, the senior lieutenant deleted his VKontakte page. The last thing he did there – he re-posted from his wife's page his photo with the inscription "I love you!".
