Lenin Monument Disappears In Lida

This Lenin was located near the military unit.

The monument to the Russian Bolshevist Vladimir Lenin unexpectedly disappeared from the Red Army Street in Lida. Representative of the Belarusian National Congress in Lida Valer Minets wrote about the disappearance of the monument on Facebook.

A Lida resident, who passed by the monument and saw an empty pedestal, confirmed this information to Radio Liberty.

The journalists found out that the Lenin monument had disappeared a month before. It was located in a quiet place near the military unit. That is why no one noticed the disappearance straightaway.

So far, the Lenin’s whereabouts remain unknown. It is seen in the old photos that the monument was in a bad condition. The locals do not rule out that it could have been sent for restoration in view of the upcoming 100th anniversary of the Bolshevist upheaval.

Vladimir Lenin has always been unlucky in Lida. In October 2016, someone poured red paint over the Lenin monument in the center of the town. This March, local resident Mikalai Miakshyla tried to write “Satan” on the monument. For this, he was sentenced to a year of liberty limitation without sending to a specialized facility.
