Resident Of Agro-Town Near Rahachou Shoots At Police Checkpoint, Throws Molotov Cocktail

The attacker used a renown Soviet Mosin–Nagant.

The emergency situation happened at 11 p.m. on October 26. First Deputy Head of Rahachou district department of the interior Viachaslau Likhalat told about it in details to the newspaper Svabodnaye Slova, the website Strong News reports.

According to the law-enforcer, the events happened under the following scenario.

The police checkpoints, which are supposed to inspect all the vehicles moving out and in, are installed in the local agro-town Stolpnya. The extra security measures were imposed due to the localization of the African swine fever virus spot.

In the evening on October 26, the father of the 30-year-old rural commandos complained to his son how sick and tired he had been due to the endless inspections. The son decided to revenge for his father, and chose a completely wrong way to do it.

Having had a drink (the exact amount remains unknown), the fighter for freedom of Stolpnya took a Molotov cocktail and a Mosin-Nagant (the most common weapons of the Red Army during the World war II), and attacked.

By all the canons of the genre harder weapons went first: the man threw a firing bottle at the police checkpoint. He missed though, the fire started some 15 meters away from the checkpoint. A policeman ran out to check on the noise, and immediately got under the fire: the agro-town resident shot at him with a Mosin-nagant, but missed again. The policeman took out the service weapon and racked the slide — this one sound was enough to repulse the attack. The people’s avenger fired once more and fled. Presumably, the very fact that the policeman might also have weapons turned out to be an unpleasant surprise for him.

The attacker was detained in the hot pursuit. He explained that the night fight with the Molotov cocktail and the legendary Soviet Nagant was carried out for the sole purpose of frightening the policemen at the checkpoint.

The intimidating action, apparently, failed. Its organizer will now have to bear responsibility under Part 3 of Article 339 of the Criminal Code — “Hooliganism”. With a real perspective to go to jail for some 7 years.
