Court Upheld Verdict To Uladzimir Niakliayeu

The authorities deliberately act so as to provoke serious health problems of the politician.

The Minsk City Court upheld the 10-day administrative arrest, to which poet Uladzimir Niakliayeu, a Belarusian National Congress leader, had been previously sentenced. Earlier, the Leninski district court found him guilty of calls to participate in the March of Disgruntled Belarusians 2.0 in Minsk, in which he did not take part himself, Radio Racyja reports.

"I did not expect a different result, although I am not guilty. The struggle is not only against me, it goes on all fronts. The authorities want to suppress the protest movement in its smallest manifestations. To make it look like as we are "democratizing" and "liberalizing". Everything is quiet and peaceful here. If people like Niakliayeu or Statkevich undertake anything – then it’s a blot on the landscape and they are just to be rid of," – the poet and politician said.

Uladzimir Niakliayeu reminded that he had presented the court with medical certificates on his state of health. But they were not taken into account. It should be recalled that previously he had suffered a stroke, and now he has serious problems with pressure. During the last arrest, Niakliayeu had a hypertensive crisis. Therefore, the poet and politician believes that the authorities deliberately act so as to provoke his serious health problems.
