Russian Customs Officers Are To Control Belarusian Border With EU?

The Kremlin offered to set up "mixed" customs posts.

During his press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed the opinion that it is necessary to set up mixed customs posts on the borders of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union.

The Russian president pointed out the need to "develop" the customs regulation in the Eurasian Economic Union, which includes Belarus, belsat.eu reports.

He identified the need for introducing electronic declaration and tracking of goods, as well as setting up joint customs posts on the borders of the EAPC countries.

"There are some questions on customs regulation... We’ve made agreements, I think we will do it – the electronic declaration of goods, tracking of their move... Joint posts. Some of my colleagues think that this is wrong, but I will try to convince them. What is there about it, if customs officers from Belarus or Kazakhstan come to work at our customs for a while, and ours go at their customs posts? This does not violate the principle of sovereignty," – Putin added. In addition to Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan are also a part of the EAEC.

Putin, proving the benefit of the EAEC, said that Belarus has the right to purchase 24 million tons of oil in the Russian Federation without taxes annually. However, he did not mention that Moscow regularly blackmails Minsk with the volumes of black fuel deliveries to the Belarusian oil refineries.
