The people demanded “power to the people” at the demonstration dedicated to the Freedom Day.

Over 100 people came to the demonstration dedicated to the Freedom Day in Vitsebsk today.

They held the posters which said “Not the people for the government, but the government for the people”, discussed the economic problems and the political situation in the country. The total number of participants was approximately 100 people, tut.by reports.

Just like yesterday, head of the department for the protection of the public order of the administration of the internal affairs in Vitsebsk regional executive committee Aliaksandr Kalinouski and Deputy Chairman of the city executive committee Piotr Padhurski came over to the people. They warned the city dwellers that the event in the Victory Square hadn’t been sanctioned by the municipal authorities, and suggested they should leave. Padhurski invited everyone for a conversation to the city executive committee, just like yesterday.

The police in uniform and in civilian clothes controlled the situation. Detention trucks were parked near the Victory Square.

Human rights defender Pavel Levinau was detained during the action. His colleague Leanid Svetik was also detained a little bit later.

Apart from that, journalist Kanstantsin Mardvintsau and activist Iryna Tratsyakova were detained on March 26 in Vitsebsk.
