Yauhen Afnahel Set Free: ‘The More You Compress Spring, The More It Will Hit When Released’

Coordinator of the “European Belarus” civil campaign Yauhen Afnahel has been released from prison.

The politician has served a 15-day administrative detention for the participation in the May Day action in the center of Minsk.

Yauhen Afnahel was detained in the evening on May 3 in the backyard of his house when he came out to walk his dog. “”I went to the yard shirtless, just in shorts. Three riot policemen jumped out of the bushes, twisted my arms, didn’t let even to get dressed and drove me away,” - the coordinator of the “European Belarus” has told the website Charter97.org right upon release from the detention center in the Akrestsin Street.

Yauhen Afnahel does not complain about the confinement conditions, although his cell was overcrowded, especially on May 9-10, when the police “cleaned” the city, hidding the homeless.

“Given that there are 20 political prisoners in the country, and these people face real terms in jail, I don’t want to complain about my 15 days. The patriots found themselves in a more complicated situation and we need to struggle for their release,” – the activist told.

Afnahel believes the opposition should continue the struggle now.

“The more arrests happen, the sooner they willl impose sanctions on the regime; the more they compress the spring, the stronger it will hit when released. Everything is going on okay, the struggle continues,” – the politician is convinced.
