Residents of the city want to install a monument to Karpenka in the central square instead of a monument to Lenin as well.

On May 22, there was a meeting of co-chairman of the Belarusian Christian Democracy Vital Rymasheuski and leader of the Christian Democratic Movement Volha Kavalkova with the people, with whom they had been serving terms in the Maladzechna temporary detention facility for the participation in the Maladzechna March of the Non-Parasites, which was held in Maladzechna on March 10.

All participants agreed to start a campaign for renaming the central square of the city in honor of former head of Maladzechna Henadz Karpenka, for naming the stadium in his honor, and for installing the monument to Karpenka in the central square instead of the monument to Lenin.

"This campaign is meant to unite all the young people. It is not just the perpetuation of the memory of a person, but also the strengthening of attitude standards towards the person, who has shown an example of work as the head of the city, which all the current and future leaders of cities should follow. It is very important to replace monuments to the executioners of the Belarusian people by monuments to the heroes of Belarus in the central squares of our cities," – Vital Rymasheuski said in his interview to the BCD website.
