EU Commissioner: Construction Of BelNPP Makes Dialogue Between EU And Belarus Impossible

The European commissioner for energy demanded that the Belarusian authorities conduct new tests of the station in Astravets.

European Commissioner Marosh Shefchovich said in Vilnius that until Belarus does not prove that the nuclear power plant in Astravets is safe, the relations of EU with Belarus are not going to "warm up," delfi.lt reports.

"It is very important to carry out stress tests corresponding to EU standards under the most unfavorable conditions. Without these tests, we can not unfreeze this energy-related dialogue with them and this, undoubtedly, limits our opportunities to cooperate with Belarus, therefore, I believe that Belarus understands how seriously we take this issue," – Shefchovich said responding to questions from members of the Seimas of Lithuania at a plenary session of the parliament.

According to him, the European Committee of Regulators, which will include representatives of Lithuania, will assess the results of those tests.
