Andrei Kavalenka was found guilty of repeatedly taking bribes.

Former Chairman of the Babruisk City Executive Committee Andrei Kavalenka, who was found guilty of repeatedly taking bribes and attempting to take bribes, was sentenced to 8 years of imprisonment in a reinforced-security penal colony, BelTA was told in the Mahiliou regional court.

All ex-mayor’s property will be confiscated. He will be deprived of the right to occupy posts related to the performance of organizational, managing and administrative duties; as well as providing the right within his competence to issue orders or resolutions and make decisions regarding persons who are not subordinate to him, for a term of 5 years.

The other two defendants in the case were found guilty of instigating to giving a large bribe. They were sentenced to two and a half years of imprisonment in a reinforced-security penal colony each.

The verdict has not come into legal force and can be appealed and protested in due course.
