Warsaw insists on recognizing the nuclear power plant as unsafe for the region.

Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski said that Warsaw does not intend to buy the Belarusian nuclear power plant’s energy in the future. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

"We will not change our mind about the matter of purchasing this nuclear power plant’s energy. I think that the technologies are not safe, and the lack of security resulted in Chernobyl. Therefore, we are against this nuclear power plant, we are not going to cooperate and buy its energy," – Waszczykowski said.

We remind that in June, the Lithuanian parliament passed a law, stating that the BelNPP is unsafe and poses a threat to the national security and ecology of Lithuania, to human health. This legal act will form the basis for restrictions on the import of electricity from BelNPP.

Latvian authorities have not discussed the issue of boycotting Belarusian electricity yet.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built close to Astravets, 50 kilometers from Vilnius. The loan for construction was allocated by Russia. The station consists of two power units with a total electric capacity of up to 2,400 MW. The launch of the first block is planned for 2019, of the second one – for 2020.
