Zhytkavichy District To Have No Bridge Over Prypiats River For One More Year

The foundations of the cracked bridge will not be replaced.

The road movement along the repaired bridge over the Prypiats river in the Zhytkavichy district in Homel region is planned to be resumed by January 1, 2019.

Such terms were announced by General Manager of the OJSC “Mostostroy” Siarhei Vashkevich in the “Contours” TV-program at ONT channel, BelTA reports.

“A ferry line is to start working since March 1. Later the river will be re-channeled, the span structure of the emergency bridge will be completely disassembled and replaced with a metal span structure. The task is to resume traffic movement on the bridge by January 1, 2019,” — Siarhei Vashkevich told.

The foundations of the bridge over Prypiats will remain, they are hammered into the river bottom with piers at the depth of several high-towers, the construction is more than stable. As for the cases which cracked in the central junction, they will be replaced with metal ones.

The bridge over Prypiats in the Zhytkavichy district cracked in early December, the traffic movement on it is prohibited. A pontoon bridge was made to organize the movement, but later it was damaged due to bad weather. The pontoon crossing will be restored in favorable weather. So far, rescuers transport people from one coast to the other on a boat.
