The independent website must be opened to the people of Belarus immediately.

European Parliament Vice President Heidi Hautala has written that on Facebook:

"I am deeply concerned about the blocking of the largest independent news website of Belarus Charter97.org, launched on January 24.

Only a month had passed, since the Belarusian Partisan website had been turned off. The reasons why the authorities block Charter97.org have not been indicated: if accusations are made in "undermining the national interests of Belarus" and "extremist" content, the authorities must really cite the "harmful content".

The blocking does not fit alongside the principle of freedom of speech – Charter97 must be opened to the people of Belarus immediately."

Earlier, the Vice President of the European Parliament, Ramon Luis Valkarsel, expressed solidarity with Charter97.org.
