Global Trade Union To Ask Hard-Hitting Question To Ministry Of Labor

IndusrtiALL Global Union will ask the Ministry of Labor about forced labor in Belarus and the prosecution of the REP trade union.

IndusrtiALL Global Union and the largest world confederation of trade unions ITUC, whose affiliate organization is the REP trade union, will organize a joint mission to Belarus, praca-by.info writes.

Kemal Ozkan, an Assistant General Secretary, and Alexander Ivanov, a Communications Officer, will represent IndustriALL, while Jaap Wienen, an Assistant General Secretary, and Anna Salnikova, Programme and Project Coordinator of ITUC-PERC in the NIS countries, will represent ITUC in the mission.

A meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection is planned to be held on April 18 as part of the visit. Negotiations about this meeting are still going on.

Forced labor in Belarus and discrimination against the affiliated organizations of the ITUC and IndustriALL, namely independent trade unions and especially the REP trade union, are among the issues that the Mission plans to discuss with the Ministry of Labor.

International solidarity is one of the important components of the world trade union movement. For example, in European democracies, trade unions have a real influence on their governments, which, in turn, can affect the relations of this country with the Republic of Belarus. Thanks to trade-union solidarity, many issues reach the international level. The REP trade union, which is a member organization of world trade unions, also takes part in international solidarity events.
