Rebellion Near Slonim: Villagers Demand To Change Management

The disturbances in the Slonim district continue for the third day in a row.

Several days ago, the residents of the village of Sasnouka, Slonim district addressed to the editor’s office of Gazeta Slonimskaya to tell about their problems. The villagers said planting potatoes is going on rather nervously. According to them, the land allocated for potatoes is very bad — just sand, no fertile soil. Although they were supposed to plant the potatoes first, according to the initial plan, they are doing it last. The land wasn’t measured or fertilized before planting.

“Just take a look at the lands of “Beldan” and those that were allocated for us! Nothing will grow on our acres, — the residents of Sasnouka outraged. — What did we pay the money for? For such pitiful organization of planting by our agricultural enterprise? Our boss does not care about us at all, we are living in some outskirts. What is the agricultural enterprise which has even no seeds?”

The people also outraged that that they have no opportunity to go to the town market in Slonim on Sundays, because the bus doesn’t go there on this day.

“There’s no master at our collective farm, no one needs us,” — the people said, categorically.

Journalists called the management of the Novadzeviatkovichy District Unitary Agricultural Enterprise, to which Sasnouka belongs, to receive a comment. However, the manager of the agricultural enterprise was on sick leave. Therefore, the situation was commented on by agronomist Yury Yakimovich.

— The issue of allocation of land for the population’s acres was agreed between "Beldan" and our Chairman, since these lands now belong to "Beldan". And how much land this enterprise allocated for acres, the same areas were handed over to people. They sowed corn on the other plots. And we could not bring the manure to these fields, because it is necessary to walk 12 kilometers to the nearest point of loading, — Yury Yakimovich explained.

The strike of machine operators from the village near Slonim began on May 16. The employees of the Novadzeviatkovichy District Unitary Agricultural Enterprise in the Slonim district rebelled against their bosses, and refused to do the work.

The main demand of the strikers is the resignation of Uladzimir Akulich, the head of the Novadzeviatkovichy District Unitary Agricultural Enterprise.

According to the workers, the head of the economy insulted subordinates, delayed wages, threatened to fire the dissatisfied. The workers refuse to go to work under the current leadership.
