"We Will Take What Happens In Brest To International Level"

Brest and district residents have gathered at the central square to "feed the pigeons" for the 26th time.

All of them are he opponents of the battery factory being built by the iPower company. In this way they protest against the construction, because they consider it dangerous, Radio Racyja reports.

They gather to discuss the situation with the plant and their further actions.

Blogger Aliaksandr Kabanau reports:

– Actually, there is a lot of news, they have made new soil tests. This time, when the samples were being taken, there were two state organizations. We are now preparing an appeal to the Council of Europe, to the European People's Party, that is, we will take what is happening in Brest to the international level. There, the emphasis will certainly be put not on the environmental issues, but on the violation of the citizens’ rights. Judging by the fact that the local authorities are against even the collection of signatures for Lukashenka’s administration, they feel this mood in the society very well.

Despite the fact that legal meetings are not possible, the opponents of the construction note that they have won some victories. For example, the situation with the waste of battery production in Zialiony Bor, which the activists exposed, has now changed. Now the state brings to justice the people and companies that have made a dump there. The people, who come to the square in Brest, believe that there will also be successes in the case of their plant:

– We need more people. It must concern everyone, not 100 or 200 people. Then it will work out, but they are afraid, of course.

– All the people are against of it. I have a lot of friends, there are even some policemen among them. They are also against, but they are all afraid, because tomorrow they will not have a job.

The conflict between the opponents of the battery factory construction with the iPower company and the authorities, which according to activists are inactive, has been running since January 2018.
