Battery Plant Try-Out Launch: Bresters Are SavingTheir Families

It became known when the try-out launch of the production of the iPower plant near Brest will take place.

A try-out launch of the production lines at the iPower plant under construction will be carried out presumably in the third decade of the current month (February 21 - 28), activist of the civil campaign against the AKB plant Yulia Zubik told Brestskaya Gazeta.

According to Zubik, in the administration of the FEZ “Brest” they were told that almost all the equipment had been delivered and installed at the plant. The only thing that has not yet been established is the boilers. The plant is going to make the first battery in the commissioning mode by the end of February.

At iPower LLC, they refused to comment on this information by phone on February 12.

Commissioning works are carried out at the construction stage before the facility is commissioned.

“We believe that commissioning, and especially trial launches, carry serious risks to human health. In Mahiliou and Svetlahorsk, it is trial runs that pollute the environment and ruin people’s lives. Some activists from nearby villages and Brest will take out their families for the duration of a trial run in order to protect their loved ones, ”commented Yulia Zubik.

In the administration of the free economic zone “Brest”, the activists of the public campaign against the construction of the AKB plant have confirmed that today there are no operating industries in the FEZ that produce 1–3 hazard class waste. The battery plant ipower will be the first such company.

Since the beginning of 2018, a campaign has unfolded in Brest against the emergence of an iPower plant in the Brest FEZ. Throughout this time, the initiative group of Brest dwellers and residents of the region, as well as its supporters, constantly talk about numerous violations at different stages of the project. Representatives of the plant, environmental organizations and officials insist that the fears are in vain and there are no violations.
