The equipment, which was seized from the trade union in August 2017, has not yet been returned by the investigators.

One of the leaders of the REP Trade Union, Ihar Komlik, has told the palitviazni.info website why the investigators still have not returned the equipment they took back in August 2017.

“We are told that the check has not yet ended, and no one knows how long it will last,” – the trade union leader said.

We remind that the leaders of the REP Trade Union, Hennadz Fiadynich and Ihar Komlik, were found “guilty” under Part 2 of Art. 243 of the Criminal Code of Belarus (“large-scale tax evasion”).

The Savietski District Court sentenced the REP Trade Union leaders to 4 years of restriction of liberty without sending to an open type institution. Human rights activists called this case politically motivated.

Meanwhile, equipment, which was seized from the trade union in August 2017, has not yet been returned by the investigators.

“The union has decided to return the computers through the court, but we are told that the Investigation Committee is still checking on our case, – Ihar Komlik says. – Accordingly, the equipment remains with them, and the court cannot take any decision.”

Ihar Komlik adds that the check, as it turns out, is not limited to any deadlines.

“Investigators have said before that they’d check the activities of the REP Trade Union for other periods, although we understand that this is all nonsense, – he says. – The verdict has already been delivered to us, we are serving the sentence at the places of residence, and the investigators have decided to check something else.

In addition, for one and a half years, the time the equipment has been in the Investigation Committee, they could have checked everything or copied information from the carriers and returned the equipment to us. But they do everything to make our work harder. Our computers, apparently, will be checked all life.”
