Birch Grove Behind National Library To Be Cut Down To Build Azerbaijani Ambassador's Residence

Journalists became aware of the terms of this strange deal.

Residents of the capital's Mayak Minsk district, which is located behind the National Library, are outraged by the rapid disappearance of forests there. Real estate developers cut it down for various reasons, and there are fewer and fewer trees, nn.by writes.

The first to be cut down was the forest line behind the House of Mercy (on the map on the right). The Serbian developer received permission to build a multi-level parking lot for 620 cars here.

Next, the birch trees across the street from Francisco Skorina will be cut down. The residence of the Azerbaijani ambassador should appear here. Back in 2015, the embassy received this land plot for rent for 99 years.

Journalists became aware of the terms of this strange deal. Azerbaijan pays... $1 a year for the territory of the embassy on the Staravilenski Tract and for the land for the ambassador's residence on Francysk Skaryna Street.

There is Yauhen Hlebay street behind the birch grove. There a cottage settlement is located, where the former vice-premier Vasil Zharko managed to squeeze in his house.
