"Governor" Lis Signed Order To Suspend Construction Of Battary Plant Near Brest

The plant will be shut down until "the detected violations are eliminated."

Chairman of Brest Regional Executive Committee Anatol Lis signed an order to suspend the construction of the battery factory, the website of the regional executive committee informs.

On the basis of subparagraph 2.6 of paragraph 2 of Article 48 of the Law of the Republic of Belarus of January 4, 2010 No. 108-З "On Local Government and Self-Government in the Republic of Belarus", information of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus (letter dated June 13, 2019, No. 11-1-6/2642), the "governor" decided to suspend the construction of the object " the Accumulator Plant of LLC iPower with its own boiler room fuelled with natural gas at: Brest district, FEZ "Brest," the area of "Airport," 1 start-up complex" until the elimination of the violations.

The Battery Plant is being built at the "Airport" industrial site in the "Brest" free economic zone by iPower LLC. Residents of Brest and several villages of Brest district believe that the company is threatening their health. Since February 25, 2018, every Sunday, opponents of the battery plant construction have been coming to Lenin Square in Brest to communicate and exchange the latest news on the construction of the plant.
